Program Summary

Each of our programs at Steiner Christian Preschool incorporate developmentally age appropriate phonics, writing, math, social studies, science, music, art and bible. They are designed to build upon each other from year to year to prepare each child for success when they begin elementary school.  Below is a brief description of each class. All classes are based on age as of September 1.

2’s Class

Our youngest program begins with children who are two years old (age as of September 1). Daily activities are designed to be developmentally appropriate. Children this age pretend-play during centers time by imitating the adults and older children in their lives. Academics are introduced with a weekly letter and number as well as a monthly color and shape. Art is incorporated into each weekly theme to help develop fine motor and comprehension skills. Teachers facilitate play and guide them toward positive social behavior through hands-on activities in small and large groups.

3’s Class

Our 3 year old students are in a key stage of social development, including becoming more independent and expressing their emotions verbally. They are also learning to make friends through play, taking turns and sharing.  In the 3’s class, we work on developing fine and gross motor skills, hand and core strength, recognition of letters, numbers, colors and shapes and various math concepts.  We will also introduce our 3 year olds to  the “Handwriting Without Tears” curriculum.  This is the same curriculum Leander ISD uses in its schools.

4’s Class

Our 4 year old students will be preparing for kindergarten as they continue more advanced curriculum and build upon what they have already learned.  As their vocabulary develops, so does their imagination and knowledge about the world. They are learning to work cooperatively as they share and develop friendships.   The 4 year old classes will continue to work on the development of fine and gross motor skills through thoughtfully planned activities. They will also be learning both upper and lower case letters, beginning sight words, various science and math concepts and counting to 100.  This program  is designed to help make a successful transition from preschool to kindergarten.

* It is important to note that children entering Preschool are developing at different rates and therefore, are at different places in their learning.  We strive to meet each child on his/her level and to continue to challenge and grow that child as he/she develops.  We do this by creating an enriched environment that differentiates between different learning styles and developmental time clocks.
